Controller – $110K–$125K + Premier Union Benefits

Remote (Must Reside Near SE Michigan)

An established health and benefits organization is seeking a Controller to lead critical financial functions and reporting activities for a multi-entity operation. This is an exceptional opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting leader with a background in healthcare or benefits administration and strong technical expertise in Basys software and Advanced Excel skills .

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements, including footnotes and variance reports

  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes

  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc reporting

  • Oversee payroll operations including payroll tax reporting and compliance (W-2s, 1099s)

  • Maintain accurate fixed asset accounting and investment reconciliations

  • Support external audit processes and act as the point of contact for auditors

  • Reconcile GL accounts and manage data interfaces between financial systems and Basys

Key Tools & Systems

  • Basys – critical to success in this role

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel

  • General ledger systems (e.g., Great Plains Dynamics or similar)

  • Reporting tools such as Insight, Crystal Reports, Access, Power BI

Reporting Structure

  • Reports directly to the Director of Financial Services

  • No direct reports; collaborates with accounting and operations staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting required; CPA preferred

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience

  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to audit readiness and compliance

  • Experience in health plans, benefit administration, or union-based organizations preferred

  • High integrity, discretion, and ability to manage confidential data

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $110,000 – $125,000 depending on experience
