We are seeking a passionate and skilled Drama and Theater Teacher to join our faculty as both a classroom educator and the school’s Theatre Director. The ideal candidate believes deeply in the ability of all students to grow as creative thinkers and performers and is excited to lead an engaging and inclusive theater program within a rigorous college preparatory environment. This role combines the teaching of drama and theater courses with the responsibility of producing and directing the school’s theatrical performances, including the fall play and spring musical, which serve as key cultural and artistic events for the school community.

Instruction: Teach 3–5 drama/theater courses daily in a rotating schedule (class lengths may vary). Planning & Development: Plan lessons, assess student work, collaborate with colleagues on curriculum and instruction, and participate in professional development. Advisory/Crew: Serve as an advisor to approximately 12–15 students; participate in community meetings, facilitate advisory circles, and build relationships with advisees. Supported Study / Silent Reading: Depending on teaching load, provide support to students in academic study sessions or silent reading. Classroom Management: Use consistent strategies aligned with the school’s behavior and classroom management system. Online Gradebook: Maintain an up-to-date online gradebook, including course syllabus, assignments, and grades, to support communication with students and families. Daily Team Meetings: Participate in daily team meetings to monitor student progress, improve school culture, and collaborate on curriculum integration. Student Meetings: Attend IEP, 504, and other family or support meetings as needed. Additional Coverage and Duties: Supervise students during breakfast, lunch, hallway transitions, and occasionally substitute for colleagues.
Lead and direct annual schoolwide productions including the school’s major cultural performances (fall play and a spring musical)
Coordinate all aspects of production, including casting, rehearsals, set and costume design, props, sound, lighting, publicity, and performance logistics
Collaborate with other faculty, staff, and student volunteers to manage the technical and operational needs of productions
Develop inclusive opportunities for students of all abilities and backgrounds to participate meaningfully in theater
Communicate regularly with families, administration, and the wider school community to promote student performances
Oversee evening and weekend rehearsals and performances as needed.
Teacher Residency (August): Participate in staff training and curriculum development before the school year begins. Instruction (August–June): Teach courses during the regular school year, aligned with the local district calendar. Professional Development Days (Monthly): Engage in full- and half-day professional learning sessions. Peer Observation (Monthly): Observe and/or participate in colleagues’ classes to promote instructional growth. Best Practices Sharing: Contribute to the school’s knowledge-sharing culture by developing and disseminating effective practices. Exam Proctoring: Administer and uphold testing procedures for state and college readiness assessments, including MCAS, PSAT, and AP exams.
Deep commitment to the success of all children and to equity in the arts
Demonstrated success in classroom teaching, performance-based instruction, and working with diverse learners
Experience directing or managing school or community theater productions
BA required, MA preferred; candidates must pass relevant MTEL exams and, if applicable, hold the SEI Endorsement (both can be completed after hire)
Preferably at least two years of teaching experience or equivalent
A collaborative mindset, sense of humor, and openness to feedback and continuous improvement
Preference will be given to applicants with experience implementing youth theatrical programming
