Position Overview:

The Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Receptionist & General Secretary. The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, can develop and maintain positive and effective professional relationships, be highly organized, and be capable of multi-tasking to keep up with the demands of a busy and growing agency. ILETSB is conveniently located at the southern edge of downtown Springfield in a beautifully maintained building across from the Lincoln’s Home National Historic Site with free secured parking on-site. Essential Functions

  • Functions as a confidential assistant to the Chief Legal Counsel and other legal section staff and attorneys, serving as a liaison between the legal section and other agency divisions and sections.
  • Prepares agency contracts, intergovernmental agreements, and other documents for the Chief Legal Counsel and other legal section staff.
  • Coordinates and administers meetings and hearings scheduled through the Legal section.
  • Manages Chief Legal Counsel’s schedule and legal section deadlines.
  • Prepares and maintains confidential reports and presents findings relative to the Board’s legal issues.
  • Maintains office files and resource documents in an orderly manner to ensure the easy retrieval of information.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college preferably with courses in public or business administration.
  • One (1) year of professional experience in a public or private organization or completion of an agency approved professional management training program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years or more of demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, WebEx & Adobe Acrobat in a professional setting.
  • Two (2) years or more of demonstrated organizational skills in a professional office setting.
  • Two (2) years or more of demonstrated ability to communicate with others clearly, concisely, and professionally, both in writing and in person.
  • Two (2) years or more of demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive, cooperative, and effective professional working relationships.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires licensure and bonding as a Notary Public within four (4) months of date of hire.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last ‐ minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. This job may require a good deal of walking or standing and involves sitting for long periods of time.
  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other law enforcement/criminal justice related topics relevant to the job duties.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background and employment history check.
