Job Description

We are searching for a Research & Development Engineer to join our Systems Engineering and Rapid Prototyping (SERP) Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State to serve in a strategic role at a customer site in Springfield, VA . This position will be embedded within a government program office, and requires prior DoD/IC experience in technology development and program management. The selected candidate will ultimately be performing inherently governmental functions with significant program management responsibilities.

You will :

• Provide technical and programmatic oversight to projects and programs, and act as a trusted agent for the government
• Collaborate with engineers and scientists across the enterprise to develop and deliver technology for mission critical projects and initiatives
• Lead and/or assist in the development of proposals and projects that meet challenging operational requirements of a diverse stakeholder community
• Provide project updates to collaborators, stakeholders, and senior-level and executive DoD/IC leadership

Additional responsibilities of higher level positions may include:

• Building partnerships and collaborations across the DoD/IC communities
• Development of technology roadmaps and execution plans
• Management of a portfolio of technology development programs

Required skills/experience areas include:

• Experience serving in a research & development engineering role for a DoD/IC technology development program required; experience serving as a program manager or project lead for a DoD/IC technology development program is preferred
• Broad experience in one or more of the following technology areas; Undersea Vehicles, Autonomous Systems, Sensors (acoustic, EO/IR, Sensors (or other novel phenomenology), Electronic Warfare, Communication systems (acoustic, fiber, RF), Materials Science, Advanced Manufacturing, Systems Engineering
• Active TS/SCI security clearance. (CI or FS polygraph preferred)

A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering , Aerospace Engineering or Systems Engineering and 10+ years experience is preferred.

Your working location will be fully on-site at a government facility in Springfield, VA. The position requires occasional travel to State College, PA and other locations.
